We will display about 70 pieces of flower motives designed by
Gerda Bengtsson, Danish Handcraft Guild (Haandarbejdets Fremme)
worked and stitched by two Japanese Yuko Watabe and  Michiyo Kato, who have passed the Sister´s course of HF Danish Stitchery, February 2015.
Their works are not only beautifully stitched Gerda Bengtsson´s flower motives, but they have also combined white work, box making and added their own ideas in their finishing techniques.

We hope you will be inspired by their works how to make your daily life more colourful and cheerful.

Gerda Bengtsson (1900-1995)
When Haandarbejdets Fremme (Danish handcraft Guild), was established in 1928 in Copenhagen, she started her career as embroidery designer.  Before that, she completed a painting course in Academy of Art and went on to study decorative art in Paris.  Her first design was created and inspired by the famous French tapestry of Musee de Cluny.  She and HF changed the face of cross-stitch designs for the up-to-date living style of the 60´s and 70´s.  At the time, it was revolutionary to keep white background with colourful flowers on it.  In a way, HF set the quality standard of the cross stitch market in the world, and they are also the reason why cross-stitch has become the national stitch in Denmark.  She created thousands of designs and educated young generations throughout her life.

We are very pleased and feel honoured to have the opportunity to show her designs made by two Japanese in Stockholm this year, commemorating the 20th anniversary of her death.
