A forum to discuss common\u00a0interests in view of the 150th anniversity of diplomatic relations between\u00a0Sweden and Japan\u00a0in 2018.<\/div>\n

The Swedish municipality Motala (http:\/\/start.motala.se\/<\/a>) is running a policy called\u00a0\u00a0\u201cGrowth via diversity\u201d<\/span>\u00a0led by mayor Mr. Elias Geroges\u00a0who himself\u00a0moved from the war in Lebanon in 1980 and came to Sweden a refugee when he was 9 years old.\u00a0Mr. Georges will\u00a0share his experiences from refugee to becoming the mayor of Motala. Furthermore Mr.\u00a0Jan Holmberg, development manager in Motala Municipality, will speak about growth through diversity and more specifically Motala\u2019s work with integration and refugee reception.

Integration\u00a0of immigrants, refugees to begin with, and relatedly cultural diversity are vital\u00a0for Japan as well.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Our seminar aims at discussing these issues\u00a0under the\u00a0heading of \u201cGrowth via diversity\u201d from both Swedish and Japanese perspectives.<\/p>\n

Came\u00a0to Sweden from Lebanon 1980 at the age of 8 years old as a refugee. Pol. mag.\u00a0from Link\u00f6ping University (International\u00a0relations). After working at several\u00a0governmental organizations, became local politician. Vice chairman of Motala\u00a0municipality council\u00a0until 2014.\u00a0\u00a0Since\u00a02014 chairman of the city council (mayor) of Motata.<\/p>\n

Presentator 2: Mr. Jan Holmberg\u00a0\"\"<\/p>\n

Development\u00a0manager of Motala municipality. Works with strategical issues for the\u00a0management of Motala municipality. Main concern is development of\u00a0the city organization,\u00a0and development for the better city to live and work in.\u00a0Lokala utvecklingsprogrammet LUP (local\u00a0development\u00a0program) to attain political goals during this period (2015-18) is an important\u00a0part of responsibility.<\/p>\n

Engaged\u00a0in asylum-seekers and refugees in Japan as a refugee\/legal officer at\u00a0Tokyo-based NGOs, such as Amnesty International Japan and Japan\u00a0Association for\u3000Refugees,\u00a0during 2006 and 2012.<\/p>\n
